Lindsay Denise Lohan was born 24 years ago today in New York City.

Even before she got her big break in Disney's 1998 remake of The Parent Trap at age 11, she was a successful child model destined for psychological problems stardom.

Lohan's career exploded from 2003-2005 thanks to lead roles in Freaky Friday, Mean Girls and Herbie: Fully Loaded, along with two relatively successful pop albums.

However, to quote her Wikipedia bio, "her career was interrupted in 2007 as two DUI incidents and three visits to rehabilitation facilities led to several lost movie deals."

Despite more than one warning from people close to her that she is going to die imminently given her lifestyle, the troubled actress has defied the odds.

Sure, she's getting sued about once a week, and had to be freed on $100,000 bail twice in as many months, but relatively speaking, she's doing really well lately!

She's the queen of controversy, but in many aspects it seems Madonna is just like any other mum.

Having already said how she wishes her daughter Lourdes would dress more conservatively, now it's emerged she has forbidden the youngster from dying her hair till she hits 14.

Lourdes made the revelation in a blog to promote her and Madonna's joint fashion line, aptly named 'Material Girl'.

"I’m 13 and I’ll be 14 in October, so I can’t wait for that because I am FINALLY allowed to dye my hair… THANK YOU MOTHER!!," says Lourdes, writing under her nickname of Lola, in an entry peppered with teen-speak, slang and capital letters.

She goes on to say: "I am totally obsessivo about 80's shorts… You know the kind that makes your butt look kinda big, with a grunge-looking shirt tucked in. It's kinda nerdy but I love it.

"And the 80’s are another huge obsession of mine, which is totally amazingly awesome because Material Girl…HELLO! It’s like 80's themed, which pretty much rocks, so yeah."
